Bangkok--6 Jul--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), the Ministry of Education and the Thai Life Assurance Association are hosting the quiz: Making Sense of Money - The Champion 2007, to find a new generation with an aptitude for finance. Winners will receive commemorative plaques and scholarships to attend a two-week language course and field trip in Australia, while the four finalists’ advisors and school administrators will win an overseas field trip. Prizes total more than THB 1 million and applications are being received up to July 31, 2006 at www.tsi-thailand.org. The competition, being staged for the third time, is for Matthayom 4-5 level students from educational institutions participating in the Making Sense of Money project, which promotes the financial expertise and awareness needed by Thai youth today. It also allows young people to demonstrate their financial management skills and knowledge, and further highlights the importance of formalized financial management education within educational institutions, SET’s Capital Market Education Chairman Mr. Punsak Vejanurug said. Over the past two years, participation of schools in the Making Sense of Money project has accelerated. In 2005, there were applications to compete from 1,300 students from 224 schools nationwide, while in 2006 as many as 3,200 students from 530 schools took part. “The Making Sense of Money — The Champion 2007 project will help youth become better skilled in managing personal finance, and ultimately produce financially healthy adults,” Mr. Punsak added. Teams that get through to the round of 32 (teams) will be invited to the My Money Management Camp, a three-day workshop on savings and personal financial management especially tailored for youth. Upon completing training, all 32 teams will enter a question-and-answer competition, using a quiz-show format, to select finalists from each region to take part in the grand final. The Grand Final quiz will employ a reality show approach and be broadcast on Money Channel, TrueVisions 80. The finalist from each of the four regions will receive cash prize, commemorative plaque, certificate, and a scholarship to attend a two-week language course and field trip in Australia. In addition to the trips and plaques available to the finalists, administrators and advisors, their schools will receive a SET Corner or Live and Learn Finance, a financial skills development game for youth and the public. The four finalists’ advisors and school administrators will win an overseas field trip for 3 — 5 days. As a special award for 2007, the Thai Life Assurance Association will choose one of the four finalist teams to be the Star of Insurance and to receive a special award.
