Bangkok--10 Jul--SET The Bond Electronic Exchange (BEX) will take its road show, Bonds for the People, to Ubon Ratchathani province in northeastern Thailand on Saturday July 14, 2007. The event, to be held at Laithong Hotel from 09:00 to 16:00 hours, is an educational outreach effort aiming to familiarize people with bonds as an investment alternative. Those attending can gain an early-bird subscription to savings bonds to be launched on the coming Monday. Ubon Ratchathani is one of the four largest provinces in northeastern Thailand. With a total savings base of about THB 30 billion, of which 45% is in savings accounts, the province could provide significant investor base expansion for the capital market. The coming event in this province is BEX’s fifth bonds fair. “Because last year’s occasion in Khon Kaen province was so successful, indicating strong regional demand for information about bonds, we are returning to the Northeast this year. The theme of the Ubon fair will be “Making sense of safe savings and investment profits”. We will expand people’s understanding of bonds as an investment option with comparatively less risk than stocks and derivatives, but still producing consistent returns,” BEX CEO Dr. Santi Kiranand said. Visitors can participate in a bonds-trading simulation and receive expert advice from commercial banks, securities companies and members of The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) group. Participants can also open bond trading accounts with securities companies or commercial banks. For the first time ever, the event will provide a pre-sale opportunity for savings bonds issued by the Ministry of Finance before their official listing on Monday, July 16. The fair offers seminars on How to optimize your investment in bonds/debentures and Investment strategies for the upcoming election. The first 200 people who register for the seminars will receive a BEX t-shirt and a booklet on bond investment. Another activity, Bond Fans, offers a special gift from BEX to those who are currently invested in bonds and present a bond certificate or other related document. The first Bonds for the People fair was held in 2006 in Khon Kaen, followed by similar occasions Phuket and Bangkok. In 2007, BEX will host the event quarterly. This year’s first was in Chiang Mai in March, to be followed by this month’s fair in Ubon Ratchathani, Songkhla in September, and Bangkok in November.
