Bangkok--26 May--Thai AirAsia Representatives from AirAsia’s Commercial Department were present at Hainan Red Cross office in Haikou around 3.00 pm and presented a mock voucher of 100 free seats amounting to RMB(Renminbi) 283,600.00 to Mr Zhao Guo Wei, President of Hainan Red Cross. The free seats donated by AirAsia will be used to raise funds for the earthquake victims at China’s Sichuan Province, signified the airline’s condolences to all victims and their families who were devastated in the disaster. The 100 free seats will be sold by Hainan Provincial Red Cross and proceeds from the sale will be donated entirely for aid relief and re-building purposes of the affected areas. “Our inaugural flight to Haikou commenced on 22 May 2008 and we were preparing for the inaugural flight ceremony when the catastrophe occurred. We reported to our headquarters office and decided immediately that we must lend a hand in any ways we could. We were grateful for the cooperation received from Hainan Red Cross office to make this mission possible” said a representative from AirAsia. Mr Wang Bing, China Publicity Supervisor of AirAsia stated: “Serving people and providing a concept that benefits everyone has always been our credo. Similar to our slogan “Now Everyone Can Fly”, we offer the best service to public since we started our operation. We have experienced and survived various adversities but it has made us stronger and more united. For instance, many other airlines stopped their services when the Bali Bombing occurred, but we insisted to continue the flights as scheduled. Prior to this, AirAsia has also came forward and offered air assistance to facilitate the transportation of aid to cyclone-hit Myanmar. This included sponsoring flights for aid workers and freeing up cargo space for transporting aid materials. This is part of our continuing efforts to deliver aid into the countries to assist the victims and their families who have been severely affected calamity. “The management and staff of AirAsia wish to extend their deepest condolences to the victims and their families. This disaster was not a mere disaster to Sichuan or China but a calamity and alarm to the whole world and human being. We sincerely hope that our little contribution could ease the burdens of these victims” he added. Mr Zhao Guo Wei, President of Hainan Red Cross said “We would like to thank AirAsia truthfully for its kindness. This is the first time we received such donation (in terms of free seats) hence we would like to express our deepest appreciation to an international entrepreneur like AirAsia for their support.
