Bangkok--1 Aug--Thai Airways International Thai Airways International Public Company Limited has won three prestigious 2008 energy awards from the Ministry of Energy’s Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency. THAI won awards in the following categories: Management for Energy Saving in a “Controlled Building,” “Existing Building Energy Management” for THAI’s Head Office on Vibhavadee Rangsit Road, and “New Building Energy Management,” for THAI’s Operations Centre, Suvarnabhumi Airport. Flying Officer Apinan Sumanaseni, THAI’s President commented: “I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of THAI. Our company is concerned for the environment as a global issue for airlines, for society and for Thailand. THAI has focused strongly on environment issues so we are very proud to have received these prestigious awards.” THAI’s Vice President, Suvarnabhumi Project, Mr. Chokchai Panyayong, said the award is a reward for THAI staff involved in building and operating the Operations Centre [OPC] at Suvarnabhumi Airport. “The award is a success not only for the company but also for Thailand. The architectural design is very environmentally friendly and is based on Standard ISO 14000, which measures and maintains international standards for environmental preservation”, he said. Apart from these awards, THAI has also been nominated for the ASEAN Energy Awards, 2008 in the category “ New and Existing Buildings.” The award ceremony will be held in Singapore. Fifty one awards were given out by the Ministry of Energy. The awards are divided into two categories: energy saving and energy supplementary management. There were137 submissions. The award presentation ceremony was held on Wednesday 30 July, 2008 at the Convention Hall, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Bangkok.
