Bangkok--1 Sep--Royal Orchid Sheraton From September 1st — 30th, 2008, the renowned Thai restaurant at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers will feature a very special food promotion using product from Royal Projects. In 1969, during his visit to northern Thailand's hill tribe villages, His Majesty the King initiated a series of projects with the clear aim of eradicating opium production and improving living standards by introducing new crops and farming methods to local people. Thanks to King Bhumibol’s visionary project, over the years some 100 types of fruits, vegetables and herbs have been introduced. At Thara Thong, Chef Charoensri Vatanayut has created a menu fabulous dishes that highlight the finest product of the Royal Project. Dishes include yam pak nam thord grob kab goong, deep fried watercress and corn with prawns and tamarind sauce. Diners can also try the delicious salad yum gai bresse, boiled chicken breast with bean sprouts, cucumber, mint leaves, sesame, ground peanuts and a sweet and sour dressing. Trout farming is a recently introduced initiative at the Royal Project in northern Thailand. A ‘must try’ dish is the pla trout neung song kruang, steamed rainbow trout topped with stir-fried fresh ginger, leek and a mushroom sauce. Other intriguing dishes created by Thara Tong’s gifted chef include goong gram thord sauce ma karm, fried red claw crayfish topped with tamarind sauce, and nua pad prik thai dam prik wan, stir-fried beef and capsicum with oyster sauce. Thara Thong is the ideal venue for discerning diners in search of authentic local cuisine prepared with care and served with the creativity and style befitting of the Royal Court. Comfortable floor seating at low tables graced with celadon tableware and bronze cutlery add to the elegance of this truly Thai dining experience.
