Jetstar appoints Bruce Buchanan currently Group General Manager Commercial, as new CEO, effective October 1, 2008

Bangkok--1 Oct--Aziam Burson-Marsteller Qantas Group Airline Jetstar, one of the first value based long haul carriers in the world, has appointed Mr Bruce Buchanan, Group General Manager Commercial, as its new CEO, effective October 1, 2008. Mr Buchanan will replace Alan Joyce, who will become CEO of Qantas. Commenting on the promotion, Alan Joyce stated, “Bruce has been a major force in the success of Jetstar since its establishment in 2003 and subsequent launch in May 2004. He has innovatively led Jetstar’s international growth, including development of a pan Asian brand and the very successful launch and ongoing expansion of our operations in Thailand.” Jetstar's entry on the Australia-Thailand route has significantly grown inbound visitation by Australians to Thailand to support the Thai tourism industry. Since November 2006, Jetstar has flown directly between Australia and Thailand 6 times weekly including Melbourne-Bangkok (3 times weekly) and Sydney-Phuket (3 times weekly) with its fleet of two class Airbus A330-200s. Jetstar also serves the Thai market with a growing number of weekly intra Asia services including Bangkok-Singapore, Bangkok to Jakarta (via Singapore)and future Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh City* services. Bruce has worked for various airlines within Australia, Asia and United States in a wide range of areas including sales, distribution, pricing, marketing, airline loyalty programs, finance and business strategy.
