Australia’s low fares airline Jetstar has celebrated its inaugural international service from Perth to Denpasar, the first of three new international destinations for Jetstar, representing a fresh boost to international capacity by the Qantas Group for the West Australian capital.
Jetstar will initially fly between Perth-Bali (Denpasar) 3 times weekly with its 177 seat A320 fleet, growing the triple weekly service at launch to 4 times weekly from 17 December 2008.
A 3 times weekly Perth-Jakarta return service commenced on 28 October 2008 with daily A320 Perth-Singapore services commencing from 2 December 2008.
Jetstar’s new international A320 services from Perth to Indonesia replaces Qantas operations as part of the further development of the Qantas Group’s two brand strategy, but will result in a 40 per cent increase in weekly seat capacity Perth-Bali (Denpasar) and 5 per cent increase in weekly seat capacity Perth-Jakarta.
The value based carrier’s new daily direct Singapore service represents incremental international Qantas Group flying from Perth and a 30 per cent jump in Qantas Group seats on this key route with Qantas continuing double daily Perth-Singapore services.
Jetstar’s new international flying from Perth will represent over 2900 new weekly seats offered by the Qantas Group for international flying from the West Australian capital.
Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan said Perth, as the airline’s seventh and newest Australian international operation, would make a significant contribution towards the carrier’s near Asian growth strategy and further grow in a sustainable way its pan Asian brand and market presence.
“Perth has excitingly become Jetstar’s seventh international market in Australia and will ably support our continued expansion of low fare services between Australia, Asia and beyond,” Mr Buchanan said.
“Jetstar’s introduction of international operations from Perth will deliver thousands of additional seats each week by the Qantas Group to support growth the continued growth of Perth as an international flying hub and destination.
“This includes a 50 per cent jump in Group weekly services on the important Perth-Singapore route, which is an important link for international visitors from Asia and beyond.
“Jetstar’s existing growth strategy for international flying is firmly focused on developing and fostering short haul flying opportunities to and from Australia. We see Perth as representing a new beachhead to better connect Australia to Asia along with similar expansion activities now taking place within our Darwin and Gold Coast international operations.”
The airline’s Perth international services will offer a Qantas codeshare in line with existing Jetstar international and Australian domestic services with baggage connectivity for international to international passenger flight connections on Qantas Group international services from Singapore and beyond.
“With 65 A320 family short haul aircraft coming into the Jetstar Group over the next six years our focus on short haul flying networks and our ability to utilise Perth as a flying hub connecting Australia and Asia has real expansionary opportunities,” Mr Buchanan said.
Jetstar’s international inflight service will include choice of portable video on demand units for hire offering latest movie releases, TV programs, music videos and audio tracks and a range of hot food, snacks and beverages including alcoholic drinks available for purchase.
Passengers can also choose an Extra Leg Room option upgrade when available when booking JetSaver Light and JetSaver fares for $60 AUD on international services, offering 20 per cent more seat pitch compared to a regular economy seat. Visit Jetstar.com for more details.
Qantas Frequent Flyers are able to redeem points on Jetstar domestic and international services with JetFlex customers able to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points on Jetstar. Qantas Club members may use Qantas Club facilities where available when flying Jetstar.
Jetstar offers a Double the Difference Voucher Guarantee on its Perth international and domestic services and wider network. If a Jetstar customer can find a lower fare with another carrier at the same time on the same route with an available JetSaver fare, Jetstar will double the difference in a Jetstar travel voucher, when the Jetstar fare is purchased.
Jetstar’s fleet of A320 aircraft will service the airline’s domestic and international services from Perth offering 177 all-leather seats in single class.
JetSaver Light
JetSaver Light fares offer customers with the choice to travel for a lower fare with carry on baggage only — to a maximum 10kg.
JetSaver fares allow customers to book with a 20 kilogram baggage allowance for $20 AUD more per sector flown.
Extra Leg Room - Important Information
Passengers can also choose an Extra Leg Room option upgrade when booking JetSaver Light and JetSaver fares at Jetstar.com, Jetstar Telephone Reservations or prior to check-in when available for $60 AUD on international services. An Extra Leg Room^ seat has a seat pitch of 38 inches, offering 20 per cent more seat pitch compared to a regular economy seat. (^Conditions apply)
Passengers who choose an Extra Leg Room seat must confirm that they meet the requirements to be seated in an exit row seat prior to booking. Jetstar has the sole discretion at check-in, or boarding, to determine whether a passenger meets the requirements to sit in an exit row seat.
Extra Leg Room seats are not transferable and not refundable. If the passenger doesn’t meet the requirements, the passenger will be assigned a regular economy seat and will not receive a refund for the additional amount paid to sit in an Extra Legroom Seat. Visit Jetstar.com for more details.

Perth — Jakarta sale
Jetstar is offering special one way JetSaver Light sale fares at Jetstar.com for Perth-Jakarta from $149 AUD for a strictly limited period commencing 9am (AWST) Monday 27 October 2008 and ending Friday 31 October 2008 7pm (AWST) unless seats sell out prior.
The offer is for travel between two periods: 3 February 2009 — 2 April 2009 and 28 April 2009 — 16 June 2009 and conditions apply (fares subject to availability, selected days and flights only, excluding travel on public holiday and school holidays).
Fares paid by credit or charge card attract an additional $5 per passenger per international flight.
