Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers will host a gourmet wine dinner at the beautiful riverside Italian restaurant, Giorgio’s on November 27th, 2008. and December 2nd, 2008.
Giorgio’s outstanding chef, Luca Pulese has created an exceptional menu designed to pair perfectly with a selection of quality Pio Cesare wines.
Pio Cesare Wine Dinner — November 27th, 2008 ( Priced at Baht 3,500) Established in 1881, Pio Cesare is a family winery run by Pio Boffa, the great grandson of the founder. Pio Cesare has worked with local growers for generations, but in more recent years they have also purchased some vineyards of their own for the production of Barolo and Barbaresco crus.
The culinary evening will begin with Chef Luca’s oven-baked finocchiona salami with fruit chutney and mascarpone cheese served with Cortese Di Gavi DOCG 2007, a fresh and aromatic wine with complex flavours. The second dish of the evening, lemon scented pan-fried cod bits, perfectly matched with L’Altro Chardonnay DOCG 2006, a rich and creamy wine with hints of vanilla. The trio of mushroom soup with Castelmagno cheese ravioli will be served with Barbera D’Alba DOC 2005, while the black pepper crusted medallions of venison with saut้ed wild mushroom, sweet potato rosti with Fontina cheese and caramelized pears will be paired with Barolo “Oranato” 2004 DOCG, a full bodied wine with subtle aromas of black cherry and a long finish.
Other highlights of evening include oven-roasted lamb chop with northeastern style braised red cabbage, warm goat cheese and shallot vinaigrette served with Barolo 2004 DOCG. The memorable evening finishes on a high note with a marbled ice-cream cone accompanied by pink Muscat wine.
Cesari Wine Dinner — December 2nd, 2008 ( Priced at Baht 3,200)
Founded in 1935 by Gerardo Cesari, the original vineyards of Cesari wines are located close to the Lake of Garda in Verona, Italy. The company later expanded its activity to mid and south Italy. In recognition of the company’s sustained and outstanding wines, Gerardo Cesari was selected as Italian Wine Producer of the Year 2006 by the prestigious International Wine & Spirits Competition.
The evening of fine dining will begin with Chef Luca’s citrus-marinated salmon with orange confit and caviar served with Cesari Pinot Grigio 2007, followed by tuna carpaccio with poached lobster medallion and shitake pear salad paired with Mitico Chardonnay 2006, a delightful full and well-balanced dry white wine with a smooth and characteristic bouquet.The warm polenta crostini with selection of Emilia cured meat wil be complimented by Cesari Bardolino Classico 2007, a dry red wine originating from the Morenic Hills close to the Lake of Garga, a classic area for Bardolino in Verona. The wine has a delicate violet aroma and a smooth finish. The penne Amatriciana style with pecorino cheese will be matched with Cesari Mara Valpolicella Superiore “Vino Ripasso” 2006 while the oven-baked breast of quail with pan-fried Amarone risotto, balsamic braised baby onions and fig sauce will be enjoyed with impressive Cesari Amarone Bosan Valpolicella Classico 1998, a bright ruby red with an aroma of sweet oak, a hint of raisin and dark chocolate.
The Raspberry mocha tart with nutty froth and white chocolate sherbet with a Recioto 2006 complete the evening of exceptional Italian food and wine.
Seating is limited, so advance booking is highly recommended. Guests can dine in air-conditioned comfort or alfresco on the terrace overlooking the Chao Phraya, the River of Kings.
