Program Title: How Life Began
Telecast date: Sunday, November 23, 2008
Telecast Time: 7.00 p.m. (Thai)
Billions of years before man first walked the Earth, billions of years before even the dinosaurs existed, Earth was teeming with life! Single-celled organisms made a roiling soup of our oceans, and living creatures were crawling in our very soil. Where did it come from? What IS life, exactly? Is it chemical, spiritual, or a combination of both? Do distant planets teem with life just as Earth does? And how do you go from a single-celled organism to a trillion-celled organism like Man?
In our two-hour special, we will explore the earliest history of our planet...how it evolved to support a rich and vibrant menagerie of creeping, crawling, walking creatures. Was life triggered by some event (like lightning hitting a pond full of amino acids) or did it float from some distant galaxy on the back of a meteor? What if life "lives" in space as tiny particles like viruses and bacteria looking for places to inhabit? (Or infect?) Can we create life in a laboratory?
Combining high-end animation and expert interviews, we'll illustrate the history of the origin of life on Earth...and beyond. We'll visit the young Earth, with massive comets colliding into the planet. We'll see single-celled organisms as they divide, mutate and evolve into other, more complex creatures. And we'll let imaginations and visions of today's leading scientists run wild as we create new life on new worlds, all using CG effects. Visually stunning animation will be supplemented with expert interviews from leading archeologists, historians, geologists and physicists, and expeditions to exotic locations where cutting edge science is teasing out answers about life's origins.
