DHL, the world's leading express and logistics company, today announced a new strategic partnership with eBay, the world's largest online marketplace. Through the partnership, DHL offers eBay sellers in Asia Pacific the option of sending goods sold online through the region’s premier express services.
With DHL express services, eBay sellers in Asia Pacific can expect faster delivery times and competitive costs for their international shipments. Compared to traditional mail, these services are at least 50 per cent faster. From now till 31 January 2009, eBay sellers will enjoy further promotional shipping rates? of up to 35 percent discount compared to standard DHL rates for their shipment, while eBay PowerSellers[1] will enjoy an additional 10 percent discount.
This promotion is available for eBay sellers in 12 countries including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam.
Dan McHugh, CEO, DHL Asia Pacific, said, “With the widespread adoption of eCommerce in Asia Pacific, many SMEs[2] in the region leverage online platforms as a key channel for sales to the global marketplace. Speed, reliability and an efficient supply chain are equally relevant to online or traditional businesses. DHL’s vast network which extends across 220 countries and territories worldwide enables businesses to truly deliver their products globally”.
The partnership is timely as online trade has witnessed growing exports from Asia.
Allis Ghim, Director at eBay, added, “eCommerce is a growing global phenomenon. In Asia Pacific, 84 percent of the online population has used the Internet to make a purchase, according to the Nielsen Global Online Survey on Internet shopping habits. We are focused on driving eCommerce in this region and are excited to work with DHL to offer preferential shipping incentives for our sellers to facilitate cross-border trade.”
With over 85 million active users worldwide and a global presence in 39 markets, eBay is uniquely positioned as a global online marketplace providing boundless opportunities for anyone to buy from and sell to the world.
This partnership allows eBay sellers to use DHL’s eComm/ online tools including an enhanced version of DHL’s eMailShip, a patented and easy-to-use shipping solution. The award-winning eMailship, allows sellers to prepare shipping documentation, obtain pricing, book a pick up and receive proactive notification of shipment progress directly in their email inbox, hence substantially improving communications in online transactions. eMailship is free for shippers and can be downloaded from DHL Starter Kit that is provided to all registered sellers of this promotion. In addition to English, the product is available in four Asian Languages and uses readily-available desktop utilities.
“Part of DHL’s approach for online businesses is to simplify the international shipping process with easy-to-use tools for greater convenience and transparency in the online sales process. Like all exporters, sellers have to deal with complexities of customs and shipment restrictions, and sellers, buying online, often experience some level of anxiety when making a purchase from strangers. Providing DHL’s end-to-end services — offering customs and regulatory expertise for sellers and proactive notification for buyers - greatly supports businesses tapping onto a global online marketplace,” said Lindsay Birley, Senior Vice President for Commercial, DHL Express- Asia Pacific.
Through the partnership, a series of online tools have been developed to allow eBay sellers quick and easy access to information and services relating to the dispatch of their goods. DHL’s all-round, trouble-free package gives them the option of handing over their entire shipping process to DHL.
