I offer my heartfelt condolences to you and your family and to the people to Thailand on the occasion of this loss. General Chatichai served his country as Prime Minister during a time when Thailand's economy was the envy of the world. As a soldier, he knew well the horrors of war. As a civilian , he was instrumental in bringing the countries of Indochina back into the family of nations after the conflict in that region. His long service to his country, as a soldier, diplomat, politician and Prime Minister, is a credit to his patriotism and love for the Thai people. As a close freicen of the United States, and as the President of the American University Alumni (AUA) Association in Bangkok, he played an important role in cementing the relationship between our two countries. General Chatichai will be long remembered as a statesman and leader. he will be deeply missed by the people of Thailand and by his many friends in the United States. Sincerely William J.
