The Home Builder Association achieved an impressive sale over Baht 2.0 BN from the Home Builder 2009. Thanks to rising consumer confidence, the 2.5-to-5-MB home ranked first among the top categories. The Association also guided that purchasing power was still high in the market and consumers were more confident about the general economic outlook. The Association further disclosed its research findings that home building demands for the year 2009-2010 were plenty and was confident that the total market value would hit Baht 10 BN as expected.
Mr. Panthep Thanchitikul, President of the Home Builder Association, disclosed today that the Home Builder 2009, which was held during August 19-23, 2009 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, was a complete success. The Association could record a sale over Baht 2.0 BN, which was considerably higher than the Baht 1.5 BN expected. The success was due mainly to rising consumer confidence in the general economic outlook, current reasonable home prices and the Association’s special Baht-2.5-MB on-site sales promotion campaign, e.g. the Honda Accord sweepstake, the 10 give-away construction materials and LCD TV, made to stimulate the market.
According to the Association’s findings, consumers were interested most in the 2.5-to-5-MB home category, which enjoyed the highest sales proportion of 37%. The 5-to-10-MB category ranked second with 20%, while the rest went to the under-2.5-MB category, 10-to-20-MB category and over-20-MB category.
In term of prices, it was found that the average home price at the Home Builder 2009 was at Baht 4.2 MB, which was quite close to the average home price at the Home Builder 2008. In term of visitors, this year event registered a total of 60,000 visitors, which was 25% lower than the last. This was probably due to negative impact of the economic slowdown.
“Though we may have fewer visitors this year, on-site sales are up. This clearly implies about the quality of our visitors that they are consumers with real purchasing powers and that our targets are not much affected by the economic slowdown. In addition, it also implies that the consumers acknowledge and understand the challenge faced by the home builders. It is also expected that on-site sales figure will help stimulate home builder sales in 2H09 and that post-sales figure would be no less than Baht 1 BN.” said Mr. Panthep.
Mr.Panthep further added that according to an on-site questionnaire result, it was found that home building demands in 2009-2010 ranked first (67%). In term of prices, consumers were most interested in the less-than-2.5-MB home category (41.33%), while the 2.5-to-5-MB home category came second (37%). It is expected that the gaining on-site sales coupled with constant home building demands would drive up total home building market value to hit the Baht 10 BN target. In 2009, the Association aimed at expanding its market shares and expected that its members would gain more shares through more extensive public relation activities.
