Thai PM opens “SET in the City 2009” investment extravaganza

Bangkok--13 Nov--SET Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva presided over the “SET in the City 2009,” a major investment fair organized by The Stock Exchange of Thailand, and gave a speech on “When the Thai capital market moves, the Thai economy strengthens.” The prime minister’s speech emphasized the Thai capital market’s importance in supporting the country’s economy, by effectively responding to the needs of business sectors and taking care of society. At the same time, the Thai capital market had to maintain its credibility and transparency to build investor confidence and drive the Thai economy. “SET in the City is an annual event of the Thai capital market, aiming at presenting the potential of Thai economy through the work of the public and private sectors and stimulate confidence on our capital market. It also encourages Thais to create a culture of savings and investment through activities held in the event,” said SET Chairman Sompol Kiatphaibool SET in the City is being held for the sixth year, with this year’s theme of “Heading to investment success.” There are a total of 96 public and private organizations joining the event, including 30 listed, 18 securities, 17 asset, four gold brokerage firms, and five insurance companies. Moreover, financial institutions are giving information and advice on an integrated investment plan using stocks, derivatives, gold, bonds, debentures, mutual funds, insurance, and new technology of financial services. Those interested are welcome to attend more than 26 seminars and open trading accounts. Participants will receive souvenirs when making transactions and get a chance to win gold necklace and investment units, totally worth over THB400,000.
