SET in the City 2009 event attracts over 100,000 visitors

Bangkok--17 Nov--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) reported that its SET in the City 2009 extravaganza during November 12-15 exceeded its targets. There were over 100,000 participants, with 15,000 transactions worth a total of THB1.2 million. “The event received so much attention from investors looking for information that the participants and transaction made exceeded the targets. The number of transactions was almost double that of last year,” revealed SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai. The number of opening accounts for stocks, bonds, derivatives, gold futures, mutual funds, and selling of insurance policies all exceeded target. Moreover, seminars on economic direction and outlook were especially popular. “The event results showed that investors have confidence on our economic recovery, and therefore are interested in seeking more returns for their savings. In particular, mutual funds received the most attention of all products, with over 8,000 transactions worth over THB1.16 billion, followed by stocks, with a total of 4,192 transactions, derivatives and gold futures with a total of 1,400 transactions, and insurance with a total of 370 transactions, including unit-linked products which debuted in the event. “This is the second year that SET organized SET in the City in a shopping mall, which is in line with the target group’s life style, whose members attended 28 numerous seminars during the event and asked for advice from specialists in the event. Thais seek information through various channels to enhance their knowledge and understanding about saving for effective decision-making in the long run. SET in the City 2009 helps create value investors, which will improve the Thai capital market’s competitiveness,” concluded Ms. Patareeya.
