Fifty-nine companies listed on Thailand’s Market for Alternative Investment (mai) have announced their 9M/2009 net profits, totaling THB1.53 billion (approx. USD46.22 million), with total sales of THB36.59 billion (approx. USD1.10 million). Meanwhile, their Q3/2009 operating results showed a total net profit of THB383 million (approx. USD17.54 million). Twelve firms have recorded continual net profits in every quarter since listing.
The listed companies above reported their operating results for Q3/2009 as of end- September,30, 2009, with total sales of THB11.90 billion (approximately USD358.85 million) and net profits of THB383 million (approx. USD17.54 million). These were decreases of 15% and 56%, respectively, year-on-year (y-o-y). Gross profit margin slightly dropped to 22% from 24%.
Total sales for 9M/2009 was at THB36.59 billion (approx. USD1.10 billion) and net profits was at THB1.53 billion (approx. USD46.22 million), decreases of 11% and 45% y-o-y.
“Economic recession resulted in a decrease in revenue and profits of mai-listed firms in different industries. However, as many as 75% of total mai-listed firms still made profits and 23 companies increased their net profits year-on-year. Four firms made a comeback in their operating performance by making profits in Q3/2009, namely, Thai Ha PCL (KASET), Porn Prom Metal PCL (PPM), Simat Technologies PCL (SIMAT), and Steel Intertech PCL (STEEL),” revealed SET Group Head, Issuer & Listing and mai President Chanitr Charnchainarong
“During the recession, firms adjusted their costs in accordance with their drop in sales. Six companies made an increase in net profits in Q3/2009 and 9M/2009 even though their total sales dropped; Dimet (Siam) PCL (DIMET), Dhanamitr Factoring PCL (DM), Star Sanitaryware PCL (STAR), Tapaco PCL (TAPAC), Thai Plaspac PCL (TPAC), and Ubis (Asia) PCL (UBIS),” added Mr. Chanitr.
In addition, comparison of quarterly operating results showed that 12 mai-listed firms recorded a continual net profits for more than eight consecutive quarters since listing, i.e., BGT Corporation PCL (BGT), Business Online PCL (BOL), Eternity Grand Logistics PCL (EGT), Goldfine Manufacturers PCL (GFM), Interlink Communication PCL (ILINK), Star Sanitaryware PCL (STAR), Thai Nondestructive Testing PCL (TNDT), Thai Nakarin Hospital PCL (TNH), Thai Plaspac PCL (TPAC), Ubis (Asia) PCL (UBIS), Unimit Engineering PCL (UEC), and Unique Mining Services PCL (UMS).
As of November 19, 2009, there were a total of 59 companies listed on mai, while mai Index closed at 214.63, with total market capitalization of THB38.50 billion (approx. USD1.16 billion).
