The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation has honored Mr. Parinya Lekdee, the founder of Por City Football Club, with the “Maj. Gen. Samrerng Chaiyong Award, supported by The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation, for 2009” for his outstanding work in promoting sports. He was chosen by the Football History Association of Thailand to receive the award due to his efforts in teaching football to Thai youth to protect them from drugs.
“This is one of the six awards under SET Foundation's social recognition project to honor those who sacrifice for promotion of sport. Recognizing Mr. Parinya will help support his work and help Thai youth, who are the future of our country, to gain from sports. Mr. Parinya is devoted to educating youth in Khemarat, Ubonratchathani, encouraging them to play football in their free time so that they stay away from drugs,” revealed SET Foundation board member and Secretary Patareeya Benjapolchai.
“He was inspired to found the Por City Football Club even though he had had an accident which made him unable to walk. For the past nine years, this club has given opportunities for youth to develop their sport potential for a better future. He has held numerous activities to develop a more effective football system for Thailand,” noted Football History Association of Thailand Chairman Jutha Tingsapat.
SET Foundation's social recognition project was held every year since 2007 to honor persons in six fields, including sports development. The other fields are education, urban development, rural development, music, and library development.
