เนื่องในโอกาสมหามงคลที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวเสด็จเถลิงถวัลยราชสมบัติครบ ๗๐ ปี ๙ มิถุนายน ๒๕๕๙ สมเด็จพระจักรพรรดิอากิฮิโตะแห่งญี่ปุ่นได้มีพระราชสาส์นถวายพระพรพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวดังข้อความพระราชสาส์นต่อไปนี้
“On the auspicious occasion of the 70th anniversary of Your Majesty’s accession to the throne, the Empress and I have great pleasure in sending you our heartfelt congratulations. We also wish to send to Your Majesties the King and Queen our sincere good wishes for your happiness as well as for the prosperity and well-being of your people.
Our thoughts are with you as we recall the pleasant memories of our attendance at the celebrations for the 60th anniversary of Your Majesty’s accession to the throne in 2006”
