Pakistan's Military College of Engineering for partnership with AIT

Bangkok--16 Aug--AIT Military College of Engineering (MCE), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan is interested in a partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), particularly in the field of disaster mitigation, reconstruction engineering and disaster management. This was stated by Brigadier Fiaz Hussain Shah, Principal, MCE, during a meeting at AIT on 10 August 2012. Brig. Shah, who was accompanied by Dr. Manzoor Hussain, Head, Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering, stated that MCE is interested in a tie-up in the field of civil engineering with an emphasis on disaster management. He added that two faculty members from MCE will be joining AIT in August 2012, and this will be followed by two more. Holding a series of meetings with senior AIT officials, the two-member MCE delegation expressed its intention to partner in a wide range of issues ranging from curriculum development to dual and joint degree programs. Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Said Irandoust, President, AIT said the Institute is keen to strengthen its relationship with Pakistan. He stated that AIT has a long-term partnership with various institutions and agencies involved in disaster management, and MCE can benefit from this network. He mentioned that Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) and T?l?coms Sans Fronti?re (TSF) are three organizations which had a very close linkage with AIT. Prof. I.M.Pandey, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Jayant Kumar Routray, Coordinator, Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Dr. Naveed Anwar, Executive Director, AIT Consulting; Ms. Vineeta Thapa, Program Officer, SERD; Mr. Ahmed Amjad Ali, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO); and Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Program Officer, ERCO, participated in the meeting. Earlier the MCE delegation also met Dr. Pennung Warnitchai, Coordinator, Structural Engineering Field of Study, Co-coordinator, DPMM; Dr. M. S. Babel, Coordinator, Water Engineering and Management (WEM); Dr. Djoen San Santoso of Construction Engineering and Infrastructure Management (CEIM); and Dr. Georges Richard Tadonki of DPMM.
