THAI Assists Natural Disaster Survivors and Reports Progress on Flights to Chengdu

Bangkok--15 May--Thai Airways Thai Airways International Public Company Limited resumed regularly operated flights on the return route Bangkok-Chengdul v.v., in addition to transporting relief goods as well as food and consumer supplies to assist natural disaster survivors. Flg. Off. Apinan Sumanaseni, THAI’s President, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, said that today (14 May 2008), has resumed regularly scheduled flights to Chengdu, with the departure flight TG 618 leaving Bangkok at 10:45 hrs. and arriving in Chengdu at 14:55 hrs (local time), with a total of 224 passengers. The return flight TG 619 departs Chengdu at 16:00 hrs. (local time) and arrives in Bangkok at 18:05 hrs with a total of 243 passengers. From this day onwards, the company is gradually transporting relief goods that are products used by passengers on board flights, such as blankets, tableware, and essential items necessary for daily use. These are items no longer in use by the company following its change in corporate identity. Furthermore, dry food, canned food, water, medicine, food and consumer supplies have been donated by the company’s employees. These items will be transported on THAI’s flights to Chengdu on a regular basis as long as humanitarian assistance is deemed necessary, whereby THAI’s employees in Chengdu will be responsible for local area distribution and coordination. In addition, THAI also provided relief goods as well as food and consumer supplies to assist survivors of the natural disaster Cyclone Nargis in the Union of Myanmar since 5 May 2008, which was the first day that THAI resumed regular flight operations to Yangon following culmination of the cyclone. After THAI gathered relief goods, items of everyday use, as well as food and consumer supplies, including items donated by the airline’s employees at a total of over 100,000 items, THAI began transporting the items for humanitarian assistance to the Union of Myanmar on flight TG 305 yesterday (Tuesday, 13 May 2008), which departed from Bangkok at 17:50 hrs. and arrived in Yangon at 18:45 hrs.
