Bangkok--12 Sep--Image Impact Global warming is a hot topic today. The media is filled with stories and theories on whether this warming cycle we seem to be in will have disastrous consequences for humankind or whether we are in a warming trend in a natural cycle. This special will dig deep (literally, a two-mile core into earth) into the history of climate on earth to investigate what has affected temperatures and weather systems over millennia. We'll look at how sun activity, volcanic eruptions, meteor impacts, and even the moving of the continents each have made huge differences in the earth's weather systems. And now, of course, there's a new element in this already volatile mix -- human activity. We will be asking the question: is global warming the result of industrialization and human activity or is it part of a long and natural cycle of warming and cooling that would occur without human intervention or is it the interplay between the two? This two-hour special will be shot in some 14 different locations around the world where the best experiments, demonstrations and scientific work are being done on this issue. Some 7-10 experts will be on location to grab the viewer. From 12-14 minutes of CGI will bring the science to life. Locations will include: Greenland, Alaska, Royal Greenwich Observatory near London, Germany, Iceland, Kentucky, on the North Atlantic, the Andes, Arctic ice sheet, Northern Ireland. Global Warning looks at the fascinating story of our planet's climatic evolution, explores the reasons for these wild variations, investigates the effects human activity has on climate, and gazes into the future to see what we might expect.
