Bangkok--8 Oct--Weber Shandwick Movie stars can often seem so far removed from us normal folk. Fortunately, Ewan McGregor, the star of such box office hits as Star Wars, Moulin Rouge and Trainspotting is decidedly much more down to Earth. So much so, in fact, he once rode around the world on his motorbike. One would think such an epic journey would give him enough fireside stories for a lifetime. One would be wrong. Three years after Ewan and his best mate Charley Boorman circumnavigated the globe, the long-time friends are hitting the road again on a journey that will take them from the northern tip of Scotland to the southernmost tip of Africa. Traversing more than 24,000 kilometres of tough terrain — much of it over dangerous roads and through bandit country — Ewan and Charley set off on their second ‘adventure of a lifetime’ in Long Way Down. Travelling through countries many of us have only heard of in newspapers such as Libya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi, the boys push themselves to the limit as they battle against extreme heat and harsh terrain. Along the way they interact with tribesmen, a President, a band of gorillas and one unhappy elephant: this is truly an up-close-and-personal account of the real Africa. Hit the road with Ewan McGregor and best mate Charley Boorman in National Geographic Channel’s Long Way Down on TrueVisions UBC 45 this October. LONG WAY DOWN: BOTSWANA TO CAPE TOWN SUNDAY 12 OCTOBER @ 19:00 An early morning wake-up call prepares Ewan and Charley for their next safari where the duo spots hippos, elephants, and even a troop of African wild dogs and their puppies. Just outside his hut, Ewan has an extremely close call with a trumpeting elephant whose charge reminds Ewan that wild animals are best admired from afar. The boys have room for one last challenge, motorcycling across the last 120 kilometres of strenuous sand before reaching the Namibian border. Arriving in Namibia, the boys are shocked by the desolate landscape. Spending the night with a local tribe, Ewan and Charley pitch their tents under the African moon. A visit to the Skeleton Coast finishes the Namibia visit and they travel through the team’s final border into South Africa. With family and friends waiting for them at the finish line, the boys are on the home stretch. But, with only a short distance left to go, cameraman Claudio takes a bad tumble off his bike. An early morning start and a convoy of bikers behind them, Ewan and Charley are excited and emotional on the trip’s last day. As they lead the way along the mountainous coast line, the boys are overjoyed to reach the last stop, Cape Town. Onanong Pratakphiriya, Senior Consultant - Weber Shandwick Thailand Tel : 02343-6059
