Return to Sandakan examines the personal impact today of one of the most horrific events of the Pacific war - the tragedy of the Sandakan POW camp in North Borneo—on the lives of the survivors and their families and the families of those who died. It tells its story from many points of view—Australian, Japanese, Taiwanese and Malaysian—and looks at how such an event is remembered by individuals and as part of the collective memory of nations.
