Bangkok--7 Aug--Image Impact Program Title: Quest for Sunken Warships: Torpedo Alley Telecast date: Sunday, August 10, 2008 Telecast Time: 6.00 p.m. (Thai) In 1942 German U-boats turned the waters off Cape Hatteras North Carolina into a sea of death. For six months the marauding U-boats patrolled the area unchallenged, sinking countless ships that littered the ocean and beaches with oil, cargo and bodies. Astonished civilians witnessed explosion after explosion until the Navy was forced to react. Many beach community residents of the time have vivid memories of plumes of smoke rising from the water. However, most Americans are totally unaware that WWII was fought right here on the beaches of America’s east coast. Through the eye of the underwater camera we’ll take the viewer on an epic journey through shark infested waters into the depths to reveal the evidence of war and the battle that took place right at doorstep of America.
